The Harrietville House at Dredgehole Lane was designed in 2003 by Greg Dickson while working at FMSA. The enthusiastic owners began construction with a local builder whose skills were unfortunately found to be lacking.
Disappointment that the design was not realised in full, in 2008 led to the construction of a scale model based off the original drawings, and the curation /organisation of a show of "Unrealised Architecture" at the Platform Artists gallery. The exhibition featured stories from other designers with similar experiences. Located in a bushfire prone area, the Harrietville House was built prior to the more recent BAL method of bushfire assessment, but was built using naturally fire resistant timbers and other materials, and in close proximity to a large static water source. Internally the design features large open spaces with few internal partitions, ideal for guests during snow winter sports where the home could transform into a ski lodge for friends. |
